Last week, the beyhive was going nuts over their queen when they found out about Beyonce’s Vogue shoot. Not only would the singer be featured on the coveted publication’s cover, she would also have complete creative control over the shoot as well as the editorial content. Turns out, the source that spilled the tea about this collaboration was stanning for the “Crazy in Love” singer a bit too hard. Vogue is responsible for the cover’s artistic concept as well as the hiring of Tyler Mitchell.
The inclusion of Tyler Mitchell in the project is a big deal, considering the fact that the 23-year-old is the first black photographer to shoot the coveted September issue in the magazine’s 126-year history. Credit was originally given to Beyonce for this radical hire, but Vogue has since clarified these claims. Anna Wintour commented on the issue by stating that “the concept and the photographer was entirely Vogue’s, specifically Raul’s.”
Mitchell hopped on Twitter to make sure his fanbase didn’t get it twisted either.
Raul Martinez became familiar with Tyler Mitchell’s work after seeing the digital cover he shot for Teen Vogue. When Martinez presented his name within a list of potential photographers to Beyonce, the diva quickly agreed on Mitchell’s hiring. Mrs. Carter was already introduced to Mitchell’s talent through the work he had already done with her sister Solange.
