Disney Will Soon Own "The Simpsons" But Fox Isn't Letting Go Anytime Soon

Disney owns my entire childhood, and probably yours too. The mega-company swooped down and purchased 21st Century Fox, making them almost unstoppable in entertainment. Now, the Mouse owns all of Fox’s best properties alongside Marvel, Star Wars, ESPN, ABC, and more. Fox’s flagship series, The Simpsons, will be falling into the hands of Disney, and fans of the show are concerned. According to AV News, Fox bosses are adamant about keeping the yellow cartoon characters on their tv station as long as they can though.

Speaking at the TCA press tour, Fox execs Dana Walden and Gary Newman addressed fans’ concerns about the merger. “You know what? Simpsons is so much a part of the brand,” Walden stated. “There’s been such an incredible halo effect of that show and the other animated series that are on our Sunday night. There are no plans for them to go anywhere other than Fox. There’s so much upside and benefit to having a great Emmy Award-winning, smart, provocative, quality show, that there’s no consideration of not ordering more.” While Fox may fight to keep The Simpsons on their channel, Disney will have the final say when push comes to shove. If The Simpsons remains on Fox, it wouldn’t be the first time a show that was produced by a separate studio was aired on another studio’s broadcast. Since Disney already owns ESPN and ABC, they are not allowed to own the Fox channel, so it is not part of their merger deal even if they own properties on the network.
