Sony CEO Continues To Shoot Down Hopes Of "Fortnite" Cross Platform Play On PS4

When Epic Games brought Fortnite to the Nintendo Switch earlier this year, they opened up cross-platform play. Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile gamers can all play Fortnite together happily, but PlayStation users were left out. In fact, Sony ended up making the controversial move to lock people out of their Fortnite accounts if they tried to sign on from a different device. The move seemed shady, and Sony has since come forward to claim they have no interest in making cross-platform play available for one of the most popular games in the world.

Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida recently did an interview with the Press Association ( The Independent), and he appears to throw shade at other gaming systems. Yoshida infers that the best place to play Fortnite is on the PS4, and providing cross-platform play would take away from the experience. “On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play,” he stated. “Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that’s our belief. But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform.”
