YG Donates $150K To Start-Up GirlCodeLA To Help Young Women Coders

YG‘s getting ready to release their forthcoming project, Stay Dangerous this evening. The rapper hosted a listening party on a yacht last week for fans and this Sunday, he’s hosting a Stay Dangerous concert as well as a 4Hunnid fashion show. Needless to say, it’s a big week for the Compton rapper. Ahead of the release of his new project, YG revealed that he cut a big check to help young women coders get a running start in the competitive field.

YG just dipped into his “Big Bank” and donated $150K towards helping young women coders get a head start in the field. The rapper cut the check to start-up company, GirlCodeLA. The business was founded by Derez White who wants to help women gain more knowledge in the fields of computer science, business and software engineering.

“Gender bias plays a role in the amount of exposure students receive in regards to technology and coding,” YG said. “This leads to influence future decisions within their field, creating smaller opportunities for diversity. With my donation, I hope they’ll be able to expand their reach of future female coders and programmers. I want to make sure I’m doing my part, I got a daughter and I respect the G Code.”

During a mentoring session, YG also donated Beats By Dre headphones to the young women.

Keep your eyes peeled for Stay Dangerous.
