This Nirvana Video Just Hit 1 Billion Views on YouTube

Nirvana reached a new milestone on Christmas Day when the band's iconic music video for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" hit 1 billion views on YouTube.

Krist Novoselić, the band's former bassist, took to Twitter to celebrate the landmark, retweeting the news and writing simply, "Thanks to you all!!!!" In the lead-up to the moment, he also gave a shout-out to late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, declaring, "The One Billionth view will be for Kurt!!!!"

Released in 1991, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" served as both the opener and lead single for Nirvana's diamond-certified sophomore album, Nevermind. The visual for the track was also recently named YouTube's second-most-watched video of the 1990s, behind Guns N' Roses' "November Rain." In July 2018, "November Rain" became the first music video from the '90s to hit 1 billion views on YouTube.
