To help kick off your week after a holiday weekend, Pearl Jam has released the second single from their upcoming album, Gigaton.
“Superblood Wolfmoon” arrived in the early morning hours of Tuesday (Feb. 18), and like lead single “Dance of the Clairvoyants,” the modern-sounding tune is already receiving some passionate reactions from fans. Feedback ranges from those who loved it from the get-go — “I think we have the best song of the decade!” — to the complete opposite ("Wow, this is really really bad").
The Seattle grunge icons first teased the latest single Thursday (Feb. 13), by offering fans a snippet of the song augmented reality. All you had to do was visit Moon.PearlJam.com, then point your cell phone at — you guessed it — the moon to get an early listen.
Pearl Jam announced their highly anticipated upcoming album, Gigaton, in January; it comes nearly seven years after 2013’s Lightning Bolt. The first single, “Dance of the Clairvoyants,” offered up a more synth-y sound that at first confused longtime fans, but guitarist Stone Gossard tried to set minds at ease.
“I think that ‘Dance of the Clairvoyants,’ if you’ve heard that track, that’s sort of the outer edge of something that we haven’t tried before, a new way of configuring our sort of collaborative talents,” he said during a January interview with Zane Lowe. ”It’s going to be the variety that our fans will be excited about. There’s definitely some really straight ahead rock songs,” the guitarist assured. “There’s some very spare and very simple ballads. It’s got it all.”
Gigaton arrives March 27, and Pearl Jam’s tour in support of the new album kicks off days ahead on March 18.

Man I wanted to love this one but WTH. That guitar solo doesn’t even belong in this song and what’s with the la la crap?

If these 2 songs are the best from the album then I’m not holding much hope for more than 3 decent songs. I’m not expecting them to continue sounding like “Pearl Jam” but I do expect them to write good songs, these unfortunately are not, regardless of what band releases them.

The newest @PearlJam song #SuperbloodWolfmoon reminds me of The Clash… Makes me think the band is paying homage to their influencers while writing this album. Can’t wait to hear more! #gigaton https://t.co/XsGrHEVVSi

Just finished being one of the first people to hear @PearlJam’s new single #SuperBloodWolfMoon on @PJRadio. It was amazing, definitely still has that classic PJ sound with a little modern twist. Keep up the great work PJ and thanks for playing the song PJ Radio!

— she was a stunner and I am stunned —
Love the new stuff, many don't. When a band does something 'new' they always lose a few fans… often gaining a lot more.#SuperbloodWolfmoon @PearlJamhttps://t.co/MDb4cZ8Hkk
