Gerardo Ortiz scores his 10th No. 1 (and eighth consecutive) on the Regional Mexican Albums chart (dated March 7) as Más Caro Que Ayer opens at No. 7. The set arrives in the top 10 with 2,000 in equivalent album units earned in the week ending Feb. 27, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
Regional Mexican Albums ranks the most popular Regional Mexican albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
The bulk of Más Caro’s opening sum is attributed to streaming activity. The 18-track set consisting of 13 corridos and five romantic tunes, registered a little over 1,000 SEA units which equates to 2.45 million on-demand streams for the set’s tracks.
Más Caro, released Feb. 21 BadSin/Sony Music Latin, marks Ortiz’s first chart entry on Regional Mexican Albums in almost two years. It follows the one-week ruler Comeré Callado, Vol. 2: Con Banda (May 2018) and earns Ortiz his 10th top 10 since his first chart entry in June 2010 when Ni Hoy Ni Mañana bowed at No. 3.
Notably, out of Ortiz’s 11 chart entries, only one other set has arrived below the top 5: En Vivo: Las Tundras (No. 14, 2011.)
Más Caro, concurrently, debuts at No. 39 on the overall Top Latin Albums. ‘
The set was preceded by one charting song on the Hot Latin Songs chart, which blends airplay, streams and digital sales: the title track debuted and peaked at No. 45 on chart dated Dec. 21, 2019.
On Regional Mexican Airplay, meanwhile it scored a No. 10 high the same chart week.
Bad Bunny & Ozuna’s New Tied Record: Meanwhile, over on Top Latin Albums, Bad Bunny’s X100PRE scores its 46th week at No. 1 in its 62nd week on the chart.
X100PRE now ties Ozuna’s Odisea for the second-most weeks at No. 1, 46, since the chart’s inception in 1993. Both trail only Gloria Estefan’ Mi Tierra; a 58-week record at No. 1.
X100PRE notches its new second-most record over two years after Ozuna’s Odisea achieved the feat as it took over the runner-up slot on Sept. 2017.
