Rising pop artist Rydyr premiered the raw music video for his new single “Dream Alone” on Friday (March 27), exclusively to Billboard.
In the clip, the former IM5 boy bander — born Cole Pendery — leaves his house for the stunning vistas of a lush river valley before coming upon a hooded figure preparing to jump off a bridge. Rushing to save the stranger, Rydyr discovers in the closing moments of the visual that the person on the edge of the bridge was himself all along.
“Hello friend, have you gone away?/ It’s been years, months and days since I’ve seen your face/ I’ll see it again, just not today/ You’ve been torn apart and scarred but you’ll be OK,” he croons, equal parts hopeful and hurting on the track’s opening verse.
“‘Dream Alone’ can be interpreted a few different ways. I think that’s one of the best parts about it; it can fit with whatever it is in your life that you’re struggling with, wanting to let go of, or find,” Rydyr tells Billboard of the track, which was written with collaborator Zakk Cervini.
“Sometimes it’s scary to feel lost, but it can also be freeing at the same time,” he adds. “This song is like a call of the voice inside you to push through whatever obstacles are in the way on your journey. I think it’s especially important given the times we are currently in, and I hope it resonates with people.”
The new single is Rydyr’s first release since the trio of 2018’s “Abusing Yourself,” “Stars” and “Jane,” and will serve as the lead single for his upcoming debut EP, due out sometime later this year the artist’s own Shadowwood Records.
