Veteran country artist Joe Diffie has tested positive for COVID-19.
Diffie, who is the first country artist to announce publicly that he has been diagnosed, said in a statement, “I am under the care of medical professionals and currently receiving treatment… We want to remind the public and all my fans to be vigilant, cautious and careful during this pandemic.” His publicist did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
The Grammy and CMA Award winner, who recently celebrated his 25th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry, is best known for such Hot Country No. 1 songs as “Home,” “If The Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets),” “Third Rock From The Sun,” “Pickup Man” and “Bigger Than The Beatles,” as well as a number of other top 40 country hits in the ‘90s.
He has been celebrated in song in recent years by both Jason Aldean (“1994) and Chris Young (“Raised On Country”)
Diffie has a number of concert dates throughout the end of the year listed on his website, including an April 18 show in Jackpot, Nevada. There was no immediate word on whether shows were being rescheduled.
