After much ado, Drake has released “Toosie Slide,” his first foray into the hip-hop microgenre nebulously defined as “instructional dance music.” It’s a ploy so deliberately engineered to corner the TikTok market and to meme its way into being the next “God’s Plan” that it’s amazing it sounds as good as it does.
This week also sees the release of Thundercat’s excellent new album It Is What It Is — the follow-up to 2017’s Drunk, and its Chopstars-helmed sister project Drank. Lil B, Ty Dolla $ign, Steve Lacy, Zack Fox and more appear throughout the track list.
Also: Frank Ocean made the previously vinyl-exclusive singles “Dear April” and “Cayendo” available on DSPs for the first time, DaBaby has a new single, and Young Thug and Gunna dropped a song called “Quarantine Clean.” Delightfully, there’s new music from Lindsay Lohan too. Hear it all on this week’s First Stream Live, below.
And, not on the podcast, but worth your time: Yaeji’s new tape What We Drew 우리가 그려왔던, Yves Tumor’s new album Heaven to a Tortured Mind, and Empress Of’s latest I’m Your Empress Of.
