Being forced to stay indoors and “socially distanced” very naturally leads us to reassess our personal playlists. Couple that with Easter and Passover, and we’re definitely in the midst of a reflective, thankful and collaborative state of mind. In a nod to the state of the times, Billboard’s Latin editors will be sharing their personal quarantine playlists with readers through April 17. First up: Leila Cobo, Billboard‘s VP, Latin industry lead. Enjoy!
If you’re quarantining en familia, your playlists are shared space. In my case, that means coexisting with Motown, classical, jazz, standards, alt rock and pop hits, in addition to my Latin favorites. I wish I could tell you this is an introspective playlist. Or a joyful one. It’s simply some of the songs I love and have on repeat. The ones that never grow old.
I included Niche’s “Cali Pachanguero” because it’s my hometown anthem, forever. I added Johnny Cash’s “She Used to Love Me A Lot” because I’ve never heard a man voice a woman’s feelings quite so well. Conversely, Rosana’s “No Olvidarme de Olvidar” does the same for both men and women. And yes, there’s hope as well, with Diego Torres’ “Color Esperanza.”
