The 1975 is just a month away from dropping their highly anticipated fourth album, Notes on a Conditional Form. To hold us over until then, the group unveiled a new single on Thursday (April 23), “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know).”
The uptempo, guitar-driven track checks all the boxes for a well-loved 1975 song: it’s tech-themed, easy to dance to at a concert and undeniably sexy.
Frontman Matty Healy details a longing for a girl he knows through a screen in the infectious tune, opening with “I see her online all the time / I’m trying not to stare down there / While she talks about her tough time / Girl of your dreams, you know what I mean.”
He then hits the hook, which boldly proclaims, “She said, Maybe I would like you better if you took off your clothes / I wanna see and stop thinking /
If you’re too shy then let me know.”
“If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)” follows previously released singles “Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America,” “The Birthday Party” and “Me & You Together Song.”
Notes on a Conditional Form is out May 22. Listen to the new single, and watch the official live video below.
