Selena Gomez unveiled a new version of her “Boyfriend” video on Wednesday (April 29) made entirely with dolls and a healthy dose of creativity.
Directed by the superstar herself, the inventive visual is a shot-for-shot recreation of the original “Boyfriend” clip, all the way down to Gomez’s noir-ish drive through the Hollywood hills and trip to the dry cleaners for a l of magic potion.
“I want a boyfriend/ But I just keep hitting dead ends/ Try to take a shortcut, but I get cut/ Again and again/ I want a boyfriend/ Tell me, are there any good ones left?/ I keep findin’ wrong ones, but I want love/ Again and again/ I want a boyfriend,” the star sings in the stop-motion video, as the plastic version of her is subjected to a parade of dates with potential suitors, all of whom turn out to be, ahem, toads rather than Prince Charming.
Released on the deluxe edition of Gomez’s 2020 solo album Rare, “Boyfriend” entered at No. 59 on the Hot 100.
