He wakes up in the morning, enjoys the sunrise from his large balcony that overlooks the Brickell marina in Miami, and counts the days for the global pandemic to come to its end.
That’s how renowned Argentine singer and composer Leo Dan spends his quarantine. Needless to say, he also feels blessed to have a wife that “cooks like the Gods.”
In the midst of the current health crisis, Leo Dan (real name: Leopoldo Dante Tévez) presented his new live album and the second part of Celebrando a Una Leyenda (Celebrating a Legend) in which he revamped 16 of his greatest hits alongside his colleagues such as Bronco, Carlos Rivera, Amanda Miguel, Natalia Jimenez and many more.
Celebrando A Una Leyenda, Segunda Parte (En Vivo) follows the first album that dropped in 2018 in celebration of his 55-plus years in the music industry, released under Sony Music Entertainment.
“I believe that the second album is going to be more successful because of the quality of artists that join me. They are young, refreshing and with a beautiful spirit,” Dan tells Billboard.
For Dan, 78, working with today’s artists, such as Rio Roma, Carlos Rivera and Natalia Jimenez, has been a blessing in his career because it’s given him the opportunity to introduce his timeless hits from the ‘60s, ‘70s and beyond to a new generation.
“These are artists that I had no idea were so talented,” he admits, “and they introduced my music to their fans, a younger generation. It’s been a big push but I still want to continue to achieve more by creating interesting and new music.”
Now, Dan is pleased to know that 18 to 30-year-olds are streaming his classics such as “Como Te Extraño Mi Amor,” “Te He Prometido” and “Mary es Mi Amor” on all the digital platforms. “I’m lucky that many modern, new artists are reaching out to me to either sing my songs or record with me and that’s filling me with pride,” he says.
Though he loves all of his collaborations on Celebrando A Una Leyenda, Dan says the one that gets him the most is “El Radio Esta Tocando Tu Cancion” with Bronco. “It gives me chills and touches my heart and soul.”
As for what makes a musical legend? Dan says it’s simple: “Humility, faith in God, and knowing that all things will go well when he’s in your life.”
