Michael Bublé offered to match his fans’ donations to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) up to $100,000 after he watched the video of the unlawful murder of George Floyd, a black man who was killed by police in Minnesota last week.
“Along with the rest of the world, I watched in horror as a policeman literally took the breath out of George Floyd. This is not the kind of world I want my children to grow up in. I stand in solidarity with the Black community and all people who seek justice and equal rights,” the singer wrote on his social media accounts while remaining quarantined in his Vancouver, B.C. home. “There is so much to do but for now, I am making a donation to the ACLU who continue their work seeking justice for the civil and human rights of all citizens. I also am challenging you to also make a donation to ACLU. I will match anyone who makes a donation using this link, www.aclusocal.org/buble, up to $100,000.”
Since its inception in 1920, ACLU has worked “to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to all people in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States” over the last 100 years, according to the non-profit organization’s FAQ page.
