A hip hop duo that gave the world arguably one of the best beats to freestyle on with ‘Shook Ones Pt. 2’, Mobb Deep, is back again with an album project. The LP is a celebration of the infinite contributions of Havoc and Prodigy, titled Infinite, and boasts a 15-track line up with a runtime of 51 mins.
The project opens up with ‘Against The World,’ with eighth note hi-hats typical of the time littering a track that is otherwise sample heavy with a looping sound.
The meditative beat introduces some of the sharpest raps right at the beginning of the album that ends with ‘We The Real Thing.’ Equally polished, the final track is in considerable contrast to the beginning of the album, and has a darker tone and mode, albeit following a similar production methodology.
One can also expect to hear legends such as Nas, Raekwon, Clipse, new talent like Jorja Smith and so many more, that have come together to make sure the project is anachronistic, both old and new at the same time.
Ultimately, the album is a reminder of Prodigy’s contribution to hip hop and stands as a sonic monument that holds the late musician in deep reverence and remembrance. Officially their 9th album, Infinite is a must-listen for all fans (and students) of hip hop. Check it out below!
