Professional boundaries in the creative industry are essential, a lesson recently underscored by A$AP Rocky. The Harlem-born rapper has effectively shut down any possibility of working with a graphic designer after the individual chose to share a private direct message on social media.
The incident began on Sunday, August 2, when Rocky reached out to Allan Peters, a designer known for his branding work. In the message, the rapper expressed genuine interest in a collaboration, inquiring about rates for logo revisions and offering praise for Peters’ portfolio. The message read: “Good morning Allan. How much do u charge for brand logo revisions? Assuming you would be willing to do so I would be honored, love ur work, god bless.”
Rather than maintaining the professional discretion expected in such high-level inquiries, Peters—who has cultivated a significant following by sharing his design process—posted a screenshot of the exchange to his Instagram feed with the caption, “I have no words.”
The reaction from the rapper was swift and decisive. Rocky took to the comments section of the post to express his disappointment, writing, “This is just distasteful. WELL I GUESS WE WON’T BE WORKING. BEST OF LUCK BUDDY.”
Following the public rebuke, Peters deleted the post, though he has not issued a formal statement regarding the incident. While he has continued to share content on his Instagram Story, including milestones regarding his follower count, it appears the bridge between him and the artist has been burned. For now, the potential partnership remains firmly off the table, serving as a stark reminder of the importance of privacy and professional etiquette when engaging with high-profile clients.
