The Game might have recently captured the spotlight with his latest album release, but the rapper is now facing a significant legal and financial setback. A California appeals court has officially rejected his appeal in a long-running sexual assault case, confirming that he remains liable for a substantial judgment.
The legal battle dates back to 2015, when survivor Priscilla Rainey successfully sued the rapper for sexual battery. The incident, which occurred during the production of the VH1 reality series She’s Got Game, resulted in a court ruling that found the artist liable for his actions. As part of the initial judgment, Rainey was awarded $1.3 million in compensatory damages, alongside $6 million in punitive damages.
Despite the ruling, the collection of these funds has been a protracted process spanning nearly a decade. By the time of a second lawsuit filed in 2021, the outstanding balance owed to Rainey remained at approximately $6.8 million. The total liability, including interest and damages, has placed a heavy financial burden on the rapper.
In his latest attempt to overturn the judgment, The Game argued that there were procedural errors regarding the court’s publication of the order and the summons process. However, the appeals court dismissed these claims, ruling that the original summons was fully compliant with state law and that there was no legal necessity for the specific mailing procedures the rapper’s defense had contested. With this latest legal avenue closed, the rapper continues to face the consequences of the original 2015 verdict.
