Aaron Rodgers’ time in Green Bay could be over sooner rather than later.
during the first round of the NFL Draft as the team picked up a quarterback in Jordan Love. Rodgers is one of the most talented quarterbacks to ever play the game so the idea that Rodgers would be replaced on terms others than his, was unfathomable. Well, the Packers are clearly drawing a line in the sand and now, Rodgers is speaking out.
During a virtual press conference today, Rodgers was asked about the Love pick and his answer was pretty devastating. As he explains, he was hoping to finish his career as a Packer but at this point, that doesn’t seem probable.
Per Rodgers:
“It was more the surprise of the pick based on my own feelings of wanting to play into my 40s. And the realization that it does change the controllables a little bit because as much as I … there are some factors that are out of my control. My sincere desire to start and finish with the organization, just as it has many other players over the years, may not be a reality at this point. And as much as I understand the organization’s future outlook… and I respect that… at the same time, I still believe in myself and have a strong desire to play into my 40s, I’m just not sure how that all works together at this point.”
These should be heartbreaking words for Packers fans everywhere. Rodgers is an NFL legend and his absence will certainly be felt, if and when it comes.
