On the heels of dropping off her “Groovy” single last week, Abby Jasmine wastes no time in returning with the track’s creative visual, featuring Guapdad 4000. Fans can get a first-look at the Staten Island native’s vibrant clip, premiering with Billboard today (April 10).
“This wasn’t even supposed to be my song,” Jasmine relays to Billboard. “I was at a writing camp and we were all just in a room coming up with ideas and this was one of them. I liked the rough idea so much that I just kept it for myself. This song is me telling someone that I’m just a different type of b—h and he’s unfamiliar with it. This is me talking my s–t again and just explaining to him what kind of person I am.”
The Mike Smiegel-directed visual, which is produced by the duo of Adam Ben and Farah Idrees, documents the process of a song going from an idea in an artist’s apartment to a global viral sensation. Abby kicks a few braggadocios rhymes and the growing response from fans carries her all the way into the label’s boardroom, where executives recommend she link up with Guapdad on the track.
Guap agrees to hop on the record, but when press day arrives, he oversleeps thanks to a wild night out with a pair of women. The “Gucci Pajamas” rapper stumbles to the premiere and eventually meets up with Jasmine to save the night. “I love Abby — her whole vibe is super chill and the song is great,” the Oakland resident chimes in of the relaxing creative process. “I haven’t had that much fun on a video set in a while! So much love for the Scamily.”
“Groovy” serves as the first single off the 21-year-old’s forthcoming Who Cares EP, which Abby plans to drop on April 20.
