According to former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund, he attempted to enhance security measures at Capitol Hill before the riots on January 6th. He revealed that he wanted to activate the National Guard before the protest by Donald Trump, but Congress officials denied it continuously and directed him to unofficially ask guardsmen to remain watchful, without declaring an emergency.
