Though the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards were pushed back to Sept. 16 from the original air date of April 5 due to the coronavirus pandemic, that didn’t stop country acts for performing for fans. On April 5, more than 20 artists joined forces for the two-hour televised special ACM Presents: Our Country on CBS.
From standout duets by Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani on their new single “Nobody But You,” John Legend and Kane Brown’s television debut of “Last Time I Say Sorry” and Brad Paisley and Darius Rucker‘s feel-good collaboration of “Mud On The Tires” and “Wagon Wheel,” to heartwarming cameos by Florida Georgia Line and Lady Antebellum’s children on their respective performances of “Blessings” and “What I’m Leaving For,” each artist left a mark on viewers.
“There’s a lot of uncertainty about how long this will last, but one thing we do know is the healing power of music,” host Gayle King said at the start of the two-hour special. “And nobody — I mean nobody — is better at nursing that power than country music artists.”
Eric Church shared a brand new song with the introspective “Never Break Heart” as well as a hopeful message with viewers while Carrie Underwood brought the wine for her stirring performance of “Drinking Alone.” Additionally, countless artists showed off their animals throughout their brief set including an appearance by Shania Twain‘s horse while she sang in her stable.
