From inside an empty Duomo di Milano, Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli, joined by an organ player, crooned his fans around the world with a YouTube Livestream performance on Easter Sunday (April 12).
The 30-minute set, titled Music for Hope: Live from Duomo di Milano, included aerial views of the empty Italian streets and Bocelli giving a stunning solo performance, sending the message of love, healing, and hope amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.
“Thanks to music, streamed live, bringing together millions of clasped hands everywhere in the world, we will hug this wounded Earth’s pulsing heart, this wonderful international forge that is reason for Italian pride,” Bocelli expressed. “The generous, courageous, proactive Milan and the whole of Italy will be again, and very soon, a winning model, engine of a renaissance that we all hope for. It will be a joy to witness it, in the Duomo, during the Easter celebration which evokes the mystery of birth and rebirth.”
Promoted by the City of Milan and the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo, and produced by Sugar Music and Universal Music Group, Bocelli performed five songs, including his rendition of “Ave Maria” and a breathtaking finale with “Amazing Grace.”
