Andrea Bocelli stunned viewers around the world on Easter Sunday when he played an otherwise silent cathedral in the Music for Hope: Live From Duomo di Milano concert.
“On the day in which we celebrate the trust in a life that triumphs, I’m honored and happy to answer ‘Si’ to the invitation of the City and the Duomo of Milan,” Bocelli said as the camera offered a bird’s eye view of the ornate spires of the Duomo.
Bocelli sang five songs: “Panis Angelicu,” his rendition of “Ave Maria,” “Sancta Maria,” “Domine Deus,” and, in a moving finale, he moved through the empty Duomo to the main entrance, where he sang an a cappella “Amazing Grace.”
The performance blew away many house-bound viewers, including Hugh Jackman, Kim Kardashian West, Shania Twain and a number of other celebs who tuned in.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you @AndreaBocelli. A tremendous gift and exactly what we needed,” Jackman wrote. Kardashian also posted the imposing picture of Bocelli standing before the building’s imposing facade.
