Banda MS: Snoop Dogg Wants to Collaborate Again

While hunkered down in their native Mazatlán Sinaloa, México], Banda MS‘ Alan Ramírez and Oswaldo Silvas joined Billboard for an Instagram Live Q&A on Tuesday (May 26), during which both spoke about their chart-topping collaboration with Snoop Dogg, “Qué Maldición.”

“This song was born in the most organic way,” says Silvas. “It came out when it was supposed to come out and it was a risk we were taking because we didn’t know how our fans would react.”

The historical collaboration, uniting two cultures and two genres in one song, debuted at No. 4 on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs (chart dated May 14), scoring both acts their first top 10 on the survey. On YouTube, the animated video has more than 30 million videos to date.

Furthermore, “Que Maldición” was Banda MS’ first collaboration outside of its genre in 17 years of existence. “We now want banda music to be heard in places it hasn’t been heard,” Silvas says.

For those who can’t get enough of the Banda MS and Snoop team-up, there may be a second song in the works, according to Banda MS.

“Snoop Dogg told us that people will want more and that we should start working on a second song, a more upbeat song that people can dance to. He left that door open for us to collab again,” shares Silvas. “But there’s no rush for the second song. Like the first one, we want to make sure it is done right and in an organic way.”

In the Q&A, Ramírez and Silvas also spoke about their highly anticipated performance at Coachella, which has been postponed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Now rescheduled for October, Banda MS confirms that if all goes as planned, they will be at the festival — and maybe with a special guest in tow. “Maybe we can have Snoop Dogg with us at Coachella. This is an idea that I thought about, but obviously nothing is set in stone,” Silvas says.

As for their concert with Snoop in Ontario, Calif., that has been rescheduled to Nov. 7.
