Hunkering down to help flatten the curve? Ben Gibbard announced that he’ll be providing fans with some in-home entertainment in the form of performances livestreamed from his home studio.
“For the next few weeks I will be playing songs everyday from my home studio,” the Death Cab for Cutie frontman shared Twitter in the early morning hours of Tuesday (March 17), noting that the sets would kick off that day. “We will be streaming on YouTube / Facebook at 4pm PST daily.”
Gibbard also added that he’s hoping to take requests, and may have a few guests “stop by digitally.”
“I know you are all really freaked out right now. I am too,” Gibbard admitted. The musician also reminded fans that while the coronavirus pandemic has led to feelings of isolation as we try to reduce transmission, “we are quite literally not alone.”
He also recognized that in the past, fans have spent substantial time and money to see him and his bands Death Cab for Cutie and the Postal Service. And now, he’d like to do something for fans: “So in this crazy and unprecedented time, I’d like to return the favor to YOU.”
With concerts postponed and canceled in the wake of the coronavirus, multiple musicians have announced that they’ll be playing streaming sets for fans instead. Among those who have revealed plans for such performances are Neil Young, Miley Cyrus, and Christine and the Queens.
