Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro hosted a Billboard Live At-Home performance Monday (April 27) to raise money for the Downtown Women’s Center, which serves homeless women in Los Angeles.
After kicking off the acoustic set with his “vibro-pop” single “Instant History,” the Scottish alt-rocker leaked a few more details about Biffy Clyro’s upcoming eighth album The Celebration of Endings, due Aug. 14.
“The album and that song is kind of about…. Like I feel in the last few years, we’re coming to the end of some kind of cycle in humanity and society, but I didn’t anticipate that we would reach this nadir,” Neil said about the world hitting a low point due to coronavirus without calling the pandemic by name. “So this song and the album has kind of taken on a different meaning for me when I’m playing them.”
Additionally, Neil described the LP’s next single “Tiny Indoor Fireworks,” which will arrive on digital and streaming platforms May 14, as “the best little pop-rock song I think I may have ever written.”
