Big Sean Unleashes Freestyle for L.A. Leakers

Big Sean is back in beast mode.

After over a decade, the Detroit rapper delivered his first freestyle for Power 106’s L.A. Leakers where he rapped over four different beats—from Drake to Kanye West.

With Hit-Boy by his side, he reflected about being with Kobe Bryant on Jan. 1, 2020 (“Trapped inside a year that can’t get no worse”) and referenced his girlfriend Jhené Aiko (“Just like NBA players in my girl’s DMs”). He also brought up the Tuskegee experiment (“They’ve been exploiting us since we got off this ship”).

Over Drake’s “Love All” instrumental, he continued to rap about family (“I got my family out the dark and out of debt”), Netflix’s “Squid Game” (“‘Xcept I would have got on the plane at the end ’cause I know that family comes first”), and ghostwriting (“A lot of songs I wrote for icons that I still ain’t even get publishing on”).

During his nearly 9-minute freestyle, he flowed over Kanye West’s Donda track “Hurricane.” “It was cool to see Ye get back with Hova,” rapped Sean, while referencing Kanye and JAY-Z’s “Jail” collaboration.

He capped it off with Nardo Wick’s “Who Want Smoke??” “Yo favorite rapper my f***kin’ doormat, look!” he declared. “I go at their necks and hearts / The sh*t you was building forever, I tear it apart / Me, I’m a stepper for real, since from the beginning / I mean, I was born in March!”

Sean, who released his latest album Detroit 2 in September 2020, also revealed that he and Hit-Boy have a “classic” on the way.
