BLACKPINK is in Candy Crush’s area in a new video promoting the mobile phone game’s new “Hungry Yeti” augmented reality feature.
Available as of today (Aug. 30) on Samsung Galaxy devices, the new augmented reality update will enable players to see Yeti, a mainstay of the Candy Crush Friends Saga, come to life in front of their eyes and interact with players. Users will be able to feed cookies to Yeti, and score a daily gift in return that can help them advance in the game.
Jisoo and Lisa of the K-pop girl group, which recently had their first song go gold in the U.S., appear in a video where they playfully attempt a dance challenge where they try to emulate the moves performed by Candy Crush characters. “We are so excited to be a part of the game that we have been playing for years through this collaboration!” they say a statement.
The pair, who appear in the video sans BLACKPINK's other two members Jennie and Rosé, describe themselves as “super fans” of the Candy Crush game series, and were able to play a special BLACKPINK x Candy Crush level when they visited King’s offices in Stockholm.
“I loved how I could feed the Hungry Yeti myself the most," says Jisoo about the gameplay. "Yeti always helped me in the game whenever I was struggling, but it felt good that I could feed it] in the AR feature by just one swing of the Galaxy Note10 'S pen'.” Users playing with the S pen will be able to activate a unique dance from the Yeti.
“I love to dance and because of my personal interest, I took a closer look at Yeti's moves,” says Lisa. “There was a distinct difference between Yeti being hungry and not being hungry, and anyone who plays the game will find it very interesting because Yeti] resembles me during our dance practices."
The Candy Crush Friends Saga launch of its AR feature with Samsung and BLACKPINK is the latest in a line of collaborations between the K-pop quartet and the South Korean phone company, and there is even a special BLACKPINK version of the Galaxy A80.
