We had a quick chat with Bless Picasso a rapper straight out of Portsmouth, Virginia who just released his fire album Al-Mansur.
Hello Bless Picasso, welcome to UK HipHop Talk! Will you tell us what made you become an artist?
Honestly, music is my first love. If I wasn’t able to be creative in music then everything would be unbalanced in my world, It’s that real.
What inspired the Al Mansur Album?
Everyday life inspired Al-Mansur. Life has dealt me several ups & downs over the years & I’ve been able to come out Victorious. Al-Mansur means “The Victor” in Arabic so that’s how the title came about for the album.
Where did your love for music stem from?
My mother used to play several different genres of music in the house when I was growing up, My love stemmed from there.
Which sub-genre do you feel you create in the music realm?
I’m just speaking my truth so I wouldn’t know exactly what sub-genre it would be, it’s just my reality. I would have to leave that one up to the people to decide a category.
Are you currently working on new music? Can you tell us a little more about your ongoing or future projects?
Indeed, I have a few new projects dropping this year. No exact street dates yet for the releases but next up is the self-produced “The Beauty of it All…”, “Don Gafari” produced by Joe City & a follow up to Al-Mansur with producer, Scary Hour.
How would you describe your musical or personal evolution between the stormy EP Holmes and Al-Mansur?
I’ve experienced a lot in my life between those two projects, you can hear it in my verses & the vibe in each project that dropped between the two that you mentioned. My pen game definitely has sharpened up with each album & the overall sound is more refined now.
If you could just narrow it to one, who is your favorite artist you’ve worked with or would like to work with, and why?
I would work with Grand Daddy I.U., hands down. When I was young I modeled my raps to his so I could learn how to flow properly. One day we’ll make something dope for the people, till then I’ll continue to plot & plan the come up.
Any upcoming projects?
Next up is the self-produced “The Beauty of it All…”, “Don Gafari” produced by Joe City & a follow up to Al-Mansur with producer, Scary Hour.
