Bon Iver's Justin Vernon Is Pretty Pissed About the Grammys and Bruno Mars

At the Grammy Awards last night (January 28), Bruno Mars won all six awards he was nominated for, including Album the Year (24K Magic), Record the Year (“24K Magic”) and Song the Year (“That’s What I Like”). In the wake Mars beating out the likes JAY-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Lorde and Childish Gambino, a former nominee has now spoken out about the sweep.

Taking to Twitter, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon wrote that “The Grammies sic] are for the music Industry. Music, itself, is for everywhere else and everyone else,” before adding that the awards “are still something serious musicians should not take seriously.”

“Absolutely NO fense to Mr Mars, but you absolutely have to be shitting me,” he continued.

You can find his tweets below.

Vernon also commented on Lorde not being fered a solo performance during the ceremonies, recalling how Bon Iver were similarly only fered a collaborative performance, which he ended up turning down.

“I have to say Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich] is a dick…I’m with Lorde on this, hard,” he wrote. “Ken told us ‘Holocene’ (Record the Year], Song the year] nominee in 2011 (?)) was ‘too long and slow and that we’d lose 4-6 million viewers cause that’ — and that he’s broken a lot careers on the show, so I should listen.”

Vernon and Bon Iver received a nomination for Best Alternative Music Album in 2017 for 22, A Million. In 2012, the project was also nominated for Best Alternative Music Album (Bon Iver, Bon Iver) and Best New Artist, both which they won.
