California-based singer and songwriter Cailin Russo is prepping her new EP, titled The Drama, Billboard can exclusively announce today (Jan. 20).
The EP is due on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14), and was produced by Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), with additional production by the Invisible Men and Michael Percy. Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is also featured on guitar.
“I’m so grateful to finally release The Drama — to also have it be the foundation to my future sounds,” Russo tells Billboard of the EP, adding that fans can expect a "new wave" vibe.
The “blueprint” for the project, Russo adds, was healing after a heartbreak. “Thank you to my muse that burned me…without that, I couldn’t have rebuilt. I learned that through trauma comes pain, she says. “Pain turns into art. Art changes perspective (for yourself and whoever), and after all that you can find freedom.”
Russo released her debut EP House With A Pool in 2018, and most recently unveiled "Love No More," a duet with Cody Lovaas, in December 2019.
Russo will also play a special release show for the EP on Feb. 14 at The Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles.
