Camila Mendes took to social media on Monday (April 13) to share a stripped-down cover of Mac Miller‘s “Circles.”
Accompanied by pal Mesh Gutierrez on guitar, the actress gave the title track to the late rapper’s posthumous 2020 album a sparse, contemplative spin in the same vein as the original studio recording. “Circles by mac miller…this is the first verse but i included lyrics from the second because they eerily resonate with the emotional state of the world right now,” she captioned the post along with a dove emoji.
“This is what it looks like right before you fall/ Stumblin’ around, you been guessing your direction/ Next step, you can’t see at all/And I don’t have a name, I don’t have name, no/ Who am I to blame? Who am I to blame though?/ And I cannot be changed, I cannot be changed, no/ Trust me I’ve tried/ I just end up right at the start of the line/ Drawing circles,” she croons on the verse, letting her crystalline timbre pierce through the gentle accompaniment.
While Mendes has showed off her pipes in the past during musical episodes of The CW’s Riverdale (on which she plays Veronica Lodge), Circles was released on Miller’s final LP back in January, just two days before what would have been his 28th birthday.
