Cardi B Says Rappers Are Making ‘Depressing’ Music

Cardi B is ready to turn up.

While going on Instagram Live on Halloween, the “Up” rapper lamented about the state of hip-hop. Cardi said she’s tired of hearing the same “depressing” songs in the club and wants to make music that makes people “turn the f**k up.”

“I came from the street club. And now that I’m in the game and everything and I be seeing all these motherfu**ers on Twitter like, ‘You need to have rap, you need to have bars, you need to have this…’” she told fans.

But Cardi just wants to make feel-good music. “I want to make music to turn the f**k up,” she said. “‘Cause when I go to the club, that’s what ni**as wanna hear.”

And she’s not the only one feeling this way. “Nobody wanna hear that sh*t. We wanna turn up, we wanna hear that hard bass. That’s the f**k I wanna do,” she said.

“That’s what they missing. They missing Belcalis,” added Cardi, whose real name is Belcalis.

According to Cardi, rappers are making music that sounds the same. “I feel like we keep hearing the same song over and over and over again. I feel ni**as these days, they making music with this type of beat that is mad depressing. All the rappers nowadays, all of them wanna die. They all wanna die, all of them.”

She attributes the trend to drugs. “All these ni**as need to stop doing lean and smoking weed. They get money and they start buying too much motherfu**in’ weed and too much lean and they make that slow shit,” she continued. “I wanna turn up. I’m tired of hearing the same songs every time I go to the motherfu**ing club. The club need me, the strippers need me.”

Cardi has been working on her long-awaited sophomore album, but there is no release date. In August, she opened up about the album’s direction.

“My music is always going to make a woman feel like a bad bitch. When you make a woman feel like she’s the baddest bitch in the room, to me, that’s female empowerment,” she told ELLE. “But this album is going to be really different. Of course, it’s going to have my Lemonade moments, my personal relationship moments.”
