Carlie Hanson Shares Pride Playlist With Miley Cyrus, Kehlani, Halsey & More: Exclusive

Carlie Hanson unveiled her latest single, “Stealing All My Friends” on Friday (June 26).

On the track, a follow-up to her 2020 single “Daze Inn,” the rising alt-pop singer-songwriter delivers a tender lament to the tragedy of addiction as she watches friends succumb to the influence of drugs.

“Told us you would make it/ Same day you were taken/ Everybody saw the signs/ And we missed ’em every time/ I wish you could answer your phone/ So we all didn’t feel so alone/ Heaven knows if I had a choice/ I’d do anything to hear your voice,” she croons on the second verse over gentle guitar.

To mark the release, Hanson broke down her go-to Pride playlist exclusively for Billboard, sharing the music from Miley Cyrus, Kehlani, Halsey and more that’s helped her celebrate being a part of the queer community amid these times of unprecedented social and political unrest.

“Pride is such a beautiful time because we get to celebrate who we are with each other,” she tells Billboard. “It’s a time to also recognize how much work there is to do in the fight for equality across the board. I’m spending Pride writing music, being creative, protesting and continuing to voice loudly the injustices happening in the world right now. Justice for Breonna Taylor. NOW.”

Carlie Hanson, “Stealing All My Friends”

“Since the passing of two of my favorite artists, Lil Peep and Mac Miller, I have wanted to write a tribute song to the both of them. We all have somebody in our lives who has struggled with or been affected by drug addiction in some way. Some are strong enough to overcome it and some, unfortunately, are not.”

Kehlani, “Toxic”

“I can really get down and feel myself when I hear this song. Kehlani always empowers me with her music, she’s so badass.”

070 Shake, “Guilty Conscience”

“This is the type of song I wanna roll down all the windows and sing my heart out to. I can listen to this one a hundred times over and never get tired of it.”

Iann Dior feat. Lil Baby, “Prospect”

“Bump this song!! It reminds me I can get what I want as long as I stay focused on my goals and what’s important!”

Coi Leray feat. Fetty Wap, “Better Days”

“Coi is spitting big facts, especially in the chorus. You can’t love somebody who doesn’t even love themselves and that is something everyone needs to hear!”

Wolf, “Pillow”

“This is my go-to song right now when I don’t know what to listen to. Wolf talks about growing up, how she has become her own person and what she does when she is feeling alone. I haven’t related to lyrics like this in a while.”

Rosalía, “A Palé”

“Rosalía’s voice on ‘A Palé’ blows my mind! I love how you think the production is going one way, but then it switches and gets super aggressive and dark. Rosalía kills it!”

Miley Cyrus, “Wrecking Ball”

“‘Wrecking Ball’ will forever be a masterpiece in my eyes. This is one of the songs that really inspired me to start writing my own music. Bangerz has been on replay the last couple days, the album always finds its way back to me.”

SZA feat. Travis Scott, “Love Galore”

“I will always remember the pretty nostalgic feeling I had when I first heard ‘Love Galore.’ This is one of those songs I never skip. Can’t wait for SZA to release new music!”

Hole, “Malibu”

“Driving in my car during sunset hour listening to this song is pure joy for me. I love how this one is pretty, sad and angsty all at once.”

Halsey, “Colors”

“I love ‘Colors’ by Halsey because it always makes me feel like I’m in a movie when I listen to it. All of her writing throughout Badlands was a huge inspiration for me.”
