Sotheby’s and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) are joining forces on an exclusive auction of rare American fashion pieces, according to WWD. Marking their first partnership, the bidding sale will feature highly-coveted looks from top American designers, sourced from the CFDA’s more-than-500-strong membership pool and avid American fashion collectors alike.
Working with an unnamed curator to build out the auction lots, Sotheby’s CFDA exhibition will spotlight pivotal moments in American fashion, particularly eras and genres that have contributed to the region’s global influence. Spanning couture, streetwear and custom-made red carpet wares, the auction will house a diverse array of one-of-a-kind pieces. Further details about specific designs included in the sale will become available as the auction approaches.
Sotheby’s will host the auction from November 27 through December 12, in tandem with the fine marketplace’s Luxury Week sale in New York City. It is unknown whether there will be a live auction, though it has been confirmed that the sale will include an online bidding format.
Notably, all proceeds from the auction will benefit the CFDA Foundation, an organization supporting the next generation of designers through scholarships and mentorships.
