Beyoncé, Rihanna, Marvin Gaye, Kirk Franklin and many more are in the mix.
After Thursday night’s (July 9) virtual fundraiser for presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, DJ Cassidy posted the inspiring 50-track “Get Up, Stand Up!: Songs for the Soul of America” Spotify playlist compiled by the former Vice President.
The compilation of uplifting songs ranges from the iconic reggae title track by the Wailers, to such R&B classics as “Wake Up Everybody” by Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes, “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye, “I’ll Take You There” by The Staples Singers, Stevie Wonder’s “Living for the City,” The Isley Brothers’ “Harvest for the World” and Sly and the Family Stones’ “Everyday People.”
In addition to beloved soul and folk songs from Sam & Dave, Jackie Wilson, Barry White, the Four Tops, Bob Dylan, Buffalo Springfield, and The Supremes, there are also tracks from gospel giant Kirk Franklin (“Looking For You”) and songs from Janet Jackson (“Together Again”), Rihanna and Calvin Harris (“We Found Love”), Beyoncé (“Love on Top”), Alicia Keys (“No One”) and Andra Day (“Rise Up”).
The playlist will be continuously updated with songs chosen by Cassidy and other guest curators from now until the Nov. 3 election. “I could not be more honored and excited to be launching Vice President Biden’s official Spotify channel,” Cassidy — who spun at both of Pres. Obama’s inaugurations — told Billboard exclusively. “Music has always played a significant role in America’s social evolution and now, more than ever, music has the power to inspire, uplift and unite. I hope the playlists on this channel can serve to energize and mobilize us all between now and November.”
