Filipino-Australian pop singer Chela released her Delivery EP in November, and now she’s back with her new music video for the title track, premiering exclusively on Billboard today (Dec. 2).
Chela's imaginative "Delivery" is the sort of slinky ‘80s-inspired electro-pop track that will push away any end-of-decade blues. "'Delivery' is a love letter to a future or past love in another era of time,” Chela tells Billboard.
Fittingly, the music video for “Delivery” takes the song to a futuristic club, featuring Chela as a hologram singer performing amid the shine and sheen of the setting, which serves as a backdrop as a clubgoer looks on forlornly considering.
Chela was inspired by films like Coyote Ugly, Blade Runner, and The Fifth Element to create the imagery. “Within this scape I wanted to create the same sense of naivete, sentimentality and alienation that is represented in the song," she explains.
Chela worked with cinematographer Stefan Duscio and art director Marni Kornhauser to bring the idea to life. “I loved the idea that we could film my performance with the dancers on a green screen and therefore I could be thoroughly present as a director on location at the bar," she adds. "It was a joy to work with Joao Marcolla, who featured as our lead character. With all of our powers combined — and some financial backup from Creative Victoria in Australia — we actualized a long time dream of mine to create a holographic-looking performance on film."
Chela is signed with RAC and Goldroom's Minerva Music. The release of the music video arrives ahead of upcoming tour dates supporting Gus Dapperton in Australia.
