Chloe X Halle have added their voices to the rising chorus paying tribute to George Floyd.
The duo posted a moving, mournful version of “We Shall Overcome,” the gospel tune that became a key refrain of the civil rights movement and has come to stand as an anthem of solidarity, strength and determination throughout many difficult periods of the nation’s life.
The caption to their post featured the song’s title next to a white dove, as well as “#georgefloyd RIP” with a heart and praying hands emoji.
The sister duo join a growing list of actors, musicians, politicians and athletes calling for justice in the wake of a clip that surfaced on Monday of a Minnesota police officer allegedly suffocating a non-resistant Floyd by kneeling on his neck as he pleaded, “I can’t breathe.”
