"I have NO idea what is going on…..but, I'd love to find out," Selena's husband writes of upcoming project.
Chris Perez, who was married to Selena Quintanilla from 1992 until her death in 1995, has reacted to the forthcoming Netflix original Selena: The Series, which was developed and executive produced alongside the Quintanilla family.
“Here is a pic I just saw of the actor playing me in the Netflix series,” he wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo of California-based actor Jesse Posey. “For the record, never met him, haven’t seen the script, and I have NO idea what is going on…..but, I’d love to find out,” he added with a set of curious emojis.
Selena: The Series, which is set to premiere this year, is a coming-of-age story chronicling the iconic singer’s rise.
In 2016, Billboard reported that Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., took the singer’s widower and production company Endemol Shine Latino to court over the development of a television series based on Perez’s “unauthorized” memoir To Selena, With Love.
Quintailla’s lawsuit against Endemol Shine Latino was dismissed in 2019, as reported by USA Today, and both sides were to pay their own legal fees, according to an agreed order signed by 319th District Judge David Stith.
Perez, a Grammy-winning musician and former Los Dinos band member, released a heartfelt rock song with his Chris Perez Band on April 1 called “Just Say Goodbye.” “Proud of our new song, proud of my band, and happy for everyone that played on it,” he said. “Plus, it feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve gotten to crank a good guitar solo out (4:27) … Enjoy!”
