Greta Thunberg had the perfect response to "Bat out of Hell" rocker Meat Loaf's recent claim that the climate activist had been "brainwashed into thinking that there is climate change and there isn't." The 17-year-old Swedish teen, who was recently named Time magazine's Person of the Year, has established a reputation for speaking passionately about the urgent nature of the global climate crisis, as well as responding to provocations from climate-denying adults — including President Trump — in a respectful, albeit cutting, manner.
Her biting retort to the classic rocker was no different. After the 72-year-old friend of Trump and former Apprentice contestant reportedly told The Daily Mail that he didn't think Thunberg had "done anything wrong but she's been forced into thinking that what she is saying is true," the teen politely, but forcefully, let the "I'd Lie for You (And That's the Truth)" singer know that he had his science wrong in a tweet on Monday (Jan. 6).
"It's not about Meatloaf," she wrote. "It's not about me. It's not about what some people call me. It's not about left or right. It's all about scientific facts. And that we’re not aware of the situation. Unless we start to focus everything on this, our targets will soon be out of reach." Thunberg also included a link to a visualization from the UK climate science site Carbon Relief citing a UN Environment Programme report that warns that the Paris Agreement target for curbing global greenhouse gas emissions to a 1.5-degree Celcius rise before hitting the point of no return is "slipping out of reach."
