When the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2020 was announced on Wednesday morning (Jan. 15), Dave Matthews Band fans were aghast to see the longtime rockers left off the list.
The omission is particularly surprising, considering Dave Matthews Band handily won the fan-centric online vote, which contributes to the annual selection process. (This year's induction honors instead will go to Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Whitney Houston, the Doobie Brothers, The Notorious B.I.G., and T. Rex.)
Fans of the band took to social media in the wake of the news to express their dismay at the decision. "So the Dave Matthews Band won the #RockHall2020 popular vote but still didn't get in? That's unprecedented," one fan tweeted alongside a gif of a winking Hillary Clinton, while another pointed out, "Dave Matthews Band is only behind The Beatles and U2 for most #1 albums in the history of music. It's ok @RockHall, we'll wait."
(Excluding solo artists, DMB actually ranks behind the two aforementioned acts as well as The Rolling Stones. With seven consecutive No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 since 1998's Before These Crowded Streets, the band ranks fourth alongside Led Zeppelin.)
DMB has since taken to Twitter to congratulate the inductees. "We want to express gratitude for all of our amazing fans and their support. We reached over a million fan votes! Thank you!" they wrote.

Well, at least T. Rex and The Doobie Brothers finally got in. But how did they pick the others over Dave Matthews Band and Pat Benatar?

What’s the point of even having a vote? What a joke. I won’t be watching the @rockhall awards this year. A million votes. That’s all I gotta say. SAD https://t.co/qAcm3CUFd5

If Dave Matthews Band doesn't get voted into the Rock & Roll hall of fame white guys everywhere will strap on their cargo shorts and storm their nearest Abercrombie & Fitch, armed with empty White Claw cans.
