The producers of “Deadpool 2” have been fined nearly $300,000 in damages for the death of a stunt woman while filming.
The producers of Deadpool 2 have been fined $289,562 by Canada’s worker’s agency, due to safety violations that caused the death of a stunt woman back in 2017.
Joi Harris was killed in 2017, while filming a motorcycle stunt in Vancouver for the film. A production studio source reportedly told Deadline that they ran through the sequence “five-plus times before filming,” and thus the scene was well-rehearsed for two full days prior to filming. During the last take, an eyewitness claims that after losing control of her motorcycle while turning a corner, Harris crashed into a glass window. Harris was not wearing any protective gear when the accident took place.
Canada’s WorkSafeBC found the film’s production company responsible for five violations of the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. The agency said, “The primary purpose of an administrative penalty is to motivate the employer receiving the penalty — and other employers — to comply with occupational health and safety requirements and to keep their workplaces safe.”
Deadpool 2 marked Harris’ first film as a stunt performer.
