The band's upcoming new album will be the first in label Suretone's re-upped distribution deal with ADA.
Following a successful debut album that saw it snag three charting singles on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart, Ded is back with new music.
Today (March 12), the Phoenix-based rockers release a pair of new songs: lead radio single “A Mannequin Idol (Lullaby)” and fellow new release “Eyes Sewn Shut,” both taken from two-song EP Mannequin Eyes.
Ded originally broke onto the Billboard charts with the No. 18-peaking “Anti-Everything” in May 2017. Two additional singles from debut LP Mis-an-thrope, “Remember the Enemy” (No. 21, October 2017) and “Hate Me” (No. 32, March 2018) followed.
Both new songs largely follow that same formula, albeit with less of a rap rock edge that occasionally permeated Mis-an-thrope and a radio-ready nu-metal sound courtesy of Kevin Churko, one of the genre’s more in-demand producers (Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed).
“There is no truth,” frontman Joe Cotela says of “A Mannequin Idol (Lullaby).” “There is only you and how you see things. We are all living in our own movie with our own experiences and circumstances shaping everything. This song is about false gods in essence. It’s purpose lyrically is to make us all question what we consume and support, whether people, artists, businesses, etc. I have my own version of that and I’m posing the question to make listeners think about what they are allowing into their lives and into their souls.”
Ded’s Churko-produced sophomore album is expected later this year, and guitarist David Ludlow says listeners “can look forward to a diverse album. To me, it’s full of some of the most progressive songs we’ve done, some of the heaviest parts we’ve ever had, the most mature, the catchiest and most of all it just sounds gigantic. We are excited to put this out and to show the world where we have grown and what we have become over the past three years since our first album.”
Additionally, the band’s label, Suretone, has re-upped its deal with ADA Worldwide for its catalog’s distribution, with Ded’s upcoming album the first under the latest agreement.
