One week after the Dixie Chicks teased new song “Gaslighter” on social media, the country trio have revealed that the track will be available March 4. In a snippet posted to social media on Friday afternoon (Feb. 28), Dixie Chicks announce “Gaslighter” will drop in March alongside the definition of the word.
“A psychological manipulator who seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a group, making them question their own memory, perception or sanity,” the band writes.
Natalie Maines first posted a snippet of the song on her personal social media account before taking it down. On it, they sing: “You made your bed and then your bed caught fir/ Gaslighter, I’m the mirror/ Standin’ right here until you can see how you broke me/ Yeah, I’m broken/ You’re still sorry, and there’s still no apology.” The song is expected to be featured on a forthcoming project from the group, which will mark the first set of new music since 2006’s Grammy Award-winning album of the year Taking the Long Way.
The trio has been in the studio with producer Jack Antonoff since August 2018. They have been updating fans along the way, sharing several photos on social media. No official album release date has been announced.
