It turns out that Drake’s musical roots run deeper than many might expect. The global superstar recently shared a nostalgic revelation, confirming that his first kiss was soundtracked by none other than the Backstreet Boys. This surprising confession came to light during a chance encounter with the boyband, highlighting the lasting impact of their music on his formative years.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys recounted a memorable meeting with the rapper in Toronto back in 2022. According to Richardson, the group was dining at a local restaurant—a favorite spot for the Toronto native—when the artist unexpectedly walked in. After being invited to meet the group, the rapper shared the personal anecdote about his first romantic experience.
“He told a story about his first kiss was to one of our songs!” Richardson recalled. The interaction was so genuine that it led to an impromptu collaboration, with the rapper joining the group on stage during their DNA Tour stop in Toronto to perform their iconic hit, “I Want It That Way.”
Reflecting on the significance of that moment, the rapper later explained to the audience why the song held such a special place in his heart. “At 13 years old, I had a bar mitzvah, and at my bar mitzvah, for the first time in my life, this girl I was in love with came up to me while one of the greatest songs in the world was playing, and she asked me if I would dance with her,” he shared. “It was the first time I ever felt acknowledged, and it was the first time I ever felt like, you know, I had a shot at being cool.”
This candid admission serves as a reminder of the universal power of music, proving that even the biggest stars are shaped by the same pop culture moments as their fans.
