Drake to Open Toronto Concert Venue History

Drake is making History.

The Artist of the Decade is launching his own concert venue named History in his hometown of Toronto. He has partnered with Live Nation on the 2,500-capacity venue, which is slated to open this fall in the Beaches neighborhood. History hopes to host as many as 200 concerts and events each year once construction is completed this summer.

In an Instagram post, Drake reflected on bringing his vision to life. “When I was younger in Toronto the biggest goal in the world to me was getting a crispy Iceberg or Girbaud fit from Jaydees Connections with @goldoildiamonds and trying to get into this legendary party called History Dance,” he said.

“I never made it in but I always heard all about it in the days to follow…now thanks to this partnership with @michaelrapino artists from all across the world can come to Toronto and make their own History. See you in FALL 21.”

In a statement, Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino, added, “We saw an opportunity to bring Toronto a great new venue, and we have so much gratitude and respect for Drake teaming up with us to bring it to life in the best way possible.”

According to Rolling Stone, History has been in development for the past three years and will be capable of hosting galas, community programs, and other events. The venue has already booked concerts for the fall including Thundercat, 24kGoldn, and 070 Shake.

This is the latest business endeavor for the Certified Lover Boy, who launched his own candle line with Better World Fragrance House last month. He recently parted ways with Canadian cannabis producer Canopy Growth Corp. after announcing their More Life Growth joint venture in 2019.
