Evan Barlow premiered the psychedelic video for his latest single “Feels Good” on Wednesday (March 4), exclusively to Billboard.
In the black-and-white clip, the rising artist details his struggles with addiction, with trippy colors distorting the picture as he sings about getting high at the expense of all else. “I been drinkin’/ Thinkin’ bout these 1, 2, 3, 4 bottles I know/ Sit back and I swallow, let go/ Deep down in the hollow I go/ This time Imma finally let go/ I like to sink into abyss and sit/ And think ’bout all the things that I could be/ While I just dream of bein’ famous,” Barlow intones in rapid-fire rhythm over steady, strummed guitar.
“This song is about not caring that my choices are wrong when I fully know that they are. F–k it. I’m gettin’ high and I don’t care. It feels good and I forget everything else going on around me — fully understanding the consequences but being so selfish and continuing to get high for the quick fix,” Barlow, who hails from rural Virginia, tells Billboard. “The video, in my opinion, is really meant to be something you watch when you want to escape reality, even for a short while.”
“Feels Good” is featured on the Elektra signee’s new debut EP, Barlow Lane, which is out now. The release follows a steady stream of singles throughout 2019 including “Fire,” “Let Him Come” and “If You Care.”
