Executive Turntable: Epic Records Names Senior VP of Content & More

Gina Harrell has been named senior vp, video production & content development at Epic Records, Epic chairwoman and CEO Sylvia Rhone announced Monday (June 1).

In her new post, Harrell will executive produce all music videos by Epic artists, overseeing the creative and financial production of visual assets, digital content and music videos while working in tandem with marketing and senior management.

As a creative executive and line producer, Harrell has worked with artists including Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey and Kanye West. She previously worked with Rhone at the New York offices of both Elektra Records and Universal Motown Republic Group, where she served as vp, video production and senior vp, video production, respectively.

In 2009, Harrell served as an executive producer on Soundtrack For a Revolution, a feature-length civil rights documentary from Danny Glover’s Louverture Films. After moving to Los Angeles in 2015, she was recruited by Vice Media to launch Live Nation TV, part of Vice’s online channel partnership with the concert promoter. In 2019, she produced the 3-D mapped film project “As of A Now” for Baltimore’s City Lights Festival, via Strangelove Films.

Harrell’s other clients have included Netflix (the Westside series), Solange Knowles (visual album When I Get Home), AT&T, GQ magazine, Apple Music, AESOP, Condé Nast, Black Dog Films, Roc Nation, Pulse Films and Caviar Content.

 


 

Royalty Exchange has brought on Anthony Martini as partner.

In his new role, Martini, will leverage his experience and relationships to introduce the online music royalties marketplace’s artist financing toolkit to creators and rights holders across the industry while also helping evolve the company’s current and future products.

Recognized as an R&B/Hip Hop Power Player by Billboard last year for signing breakthrough artists including Lil Dicky, MadeinTYO and IDK to his independent record label Commission, Martini comes to Royalty Exchange with over 15 years of experience in the industry. He kicked off his career working with metal acts including Lamb of God and Behemoth before joining Crush Management, whose roster included Sia and Fall Out Boy. He later founded his own management company, The CMSN, where he discovered rapper Tyga. He also previously worked as a partner at music licensing platform Jingle Punks, which was acquired by Ole Media in 2015.

 


 

South African singer-songwriter, actress, entrepreneur and humanitarian Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Mexican composer Arturo Márquez have both been elected vp at CISAC, the global confederation of authors societies.

Chaka Chaka has been one of the leading figures in South African popular music for nearly three decades, having shared stages with Angélique Kidjo, Annie Lennox, Bono, Queen, Miriam Makeba and Youssou N’Dour. She has championed causes including the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria; the United Nations MDG Envoy for Africa; and the Goodwill Ambassador for the Roll Back Malaria Partnership. She also has her own charity, the Princess of Africa Foundation.

Márquez’s works have been performed by the National Symphony Orchestra Mexico, YOSA Philharmonic, Pan American Symphony, l’Orchestre de Paris, Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre Symphonique de Lyon. He has been the recipient of several awards and scholarships, including the Fulbright Scholarship in the U.S.

Chaka Chaka and Márquez join Chinese writer-director-producer Jia Zhang-ke and Spanish visual artist Miquel Barceló as CISAC vps.
