Selena Quintanilla’s legacy and music continue to shine, especially on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart, where she has placed 23 entries, including her sets Amor Prohibido and Dreaming of You.
With Amor Prohibido, home to hits such as “No Me Queda Mas” and “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” Quintanilla clocked her first No. 1 in June 1994. The album remained atop the tally for 20 weeks.
Dreaming of You, which was released four months after her passing and includes English and Spanish songs, debuted at No. 1 in August 1995, selling 331,000 copies in its first week and sold over 1 million in two months.
It was the first posthumous album to debut at No. 1, the third posthumous album at that time to reach No. 1 at all, after projects by Janis Joplin and Jim Croce, the first mostly Spanish-language album to debut at No. 1, and the first album by a Latin artist to debut at No. 1, placing the Queen of Tejano at another level of stardom.
Other Selena sets that have ranked on Top Latin Albums include studio albums, live albums, remixes albums and more. Billboard highlighted a couple in honor of what would’ve marked the singer’s 49th birthday today (April 16).
